LARAMIE, Wyo. — In a newly released poll from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, the University of Wyoming Cowboys and Cowgirls ranked eighth and ninth, respectively, in the entire Mountain West Conference.
In a conference made up of 11 full-time members, Wyoming also finished last season in the 8th spot for men’s and 9th for women’s in track and field and cross-country, according to a release by the university. This new poll, completed for the preseason, places the University of Wyoming solidly back into the same positions.
The release added that many student athletes who contributed to the success of the university in the sport are returning. For the men, Jacob White, Mason Norman, Ryker Holtzen, Gus McIntyre and Asefa Wetzel, who all contributed to place UW at eighth, are back for another year of competition. For the ninth-placing women, Abigail Whitman, Eowyn Dalbec, Hailey Uhre, Kylie Simshauser and Madelyn Blazo return.
Track and field and cross-country will commence for the 2024 season on Friday, Aug. 30 at the Little America Golf Course in Cheyenne for the Wyoming Invite. According to the University of Wyoming Athletics, women’s competition begins at 9 a.m., while men begin at 9:30.
