LARAMIE, Wyo. — The University of Wyoming’s men’s and women’s cross-country teams had a dominant outing at the Roy Griak Invitational in St. Paul, Minnesota, today, with the men coming home in first place and the women coming home in third.

In their respective races, UW’s Mason Norman and Kylie Simshauser were the school’s top performers.

In the men’s 8K race, UW finished first out of 17 schools with 63 total points and had three athletes in the top 10 — the only school at the invitational to do so. Wyoming Cowboy athletes took fifth, seventh and eighth.

For the Cowgirls, Simshauser and Abigail Whitman placed in the top 10 individually and helped the team secure its third-place spot with 79 points. This is, according to the school’s athletics department, the team’s best finish in its history. The Cowgirls also managed to beat out Colorado State.

In a UW Athletics release, Wyoming’s cross-country head coach, Scott Dahlberg, spoke highly of the school’s athletes and said many of them stepped up in a big way today.

“They’ve been showing it in training, but to see that confidence translate into a big race setting was great,” Dahlberg said. “They put themselves in the right place early in the race, held tough in the middle and then competed hard at the end.”

Now the team looks forward to the Joe Piane Invitation in South Bend, Indiana. The race, hosted by Notre Dame, will take place Oct. 4.
