FORT COLLINS, Colo. — The Wyoming Cowgirls closed out action Sunday with the final day of the Jon Messick Invitational hosted by Colorado State, where the doubles team of Elena Trencheva and Ruby Young took home third place and Young won the consolation bracket. Anastasiia Kochelaevskaia and Trencheva both took home second at the tournament.
Young took home the consolation final behind the strength of a third set, super set victory over Utah State’s Olivia Halvorsen. After dropping the first set 6–0, Young rallied to win the second set 6–3 and then came away third with a 10–8 victory to win the match. Serina Abriola had the other singles win on the day for the Cowgirls as she bested Utah State’s Kylee Sperry, 6–4 and 6–3.
In doubles, Trencheva and Young took third with a 6–1 win over Iowa State. Adel Ismagulova and Anastasiia Kochelaevskaia blanked the team from Air Force, 6–0. Dilnaz Mashabayeva teamed up with a partner from Oregon to win 6–1 over South Dakota.
The Cowgirls are off now until the ITA Regionals in October. Violetta Borodina and Mashabayeva will play next week at the Mountain West Individuals, both separately and as a doubles team.
