LARAMIE, Wyo. — The preseason accolades keep rolling in for University of Wyoming senior center Allyson Fertig, who was recently named to the Lisa Leslie Center of the Year preseason watchlist. Fertig is one of just 20 student athletes on the list for the prestigious award, given to the nation’s top center.

Fertig, who was also named the Preseason Mountain West Co-Player of the Year and added to the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year watchlist in October, is a two-time All-Mountain West Team honoree.

Last season, Fertig ranked sixth in the league in scoring, averaging 14.3 points per game. Meanwhile, she was the second-best rebounder and shot blocker in the conference, pulling down 8.4 per contest and swatting away roughly 1.64 shots per game. Fertig’s 60.8% field goal percentage was the 10th best clip in the nation and set a UW program record.

“It’s one of my favorite things watching how she can step up and improve game after game, season after season. She just keeps on reaching another level, which is really good for her,” senior guard Tess Barnes said. “She’s getting up and down the court quicker, she’s stronger than ever, just dominating basically. That’s the key word.”
