LARAMIE, Wyo. — While most of the country stayed at home watching electoral votes tick up in the nation’s presidential election, the University of Wyoming Cowgirls defended home turf in a volleyball battle against the CSU Rams last night. The Cowgirls would take the first set but lose in four to their opponents.

The Cowgirls came out hot in that first set, holding a lead most of the time and finishing strong with a nail-biting 26–24 win. Quick to respond and despite a fourth set that looked to be going the Cowgirls’ way, the Rams came back with the next three sets and took the W.

The Rams hit slightly more efficiently, with a .294 hitting percentage, compared to the Cowgirls, who hit at .238. Led by Kayla Mazzocca at the front of the net, who individually made six blocks, the Cowgirls beat the Rams in blocking 9–5.

Rounding out Wyoming’s defensive performance, Kasia Partyka and Sierra Grizzle hit the floor with digs the most out of the team with 13 and nine, respectively. Sarah Holcomb contributed another three blocks to the team’s total.

Freshman Claire Wagstaff once again led the Cowgirls offensively with her 15 kills. She did the very same in the Cowgirls’ 3–0 win against UNLV Nov. 2.

Looking for redemption, the Cowgirls will face Boise State on Thursday at 6 p.m. in enemy territory. The team’s full schedule can be viewed on the University of Wyoming Athletics website.

The University of Wyoming as a whole will also get a chance at revenge against Colorado State University next week when the two schools face off on the football field for the first time this year. More information on the Border War rivalry game can be found here.
