BOISE, Idaho — The Cowboys are prepping to face the Boise State Broncos, the fourth best team in the Mountain West, tonight. In the two teams’ second match of the season, the Broncos are favored 9:1.
That statistic is reported by ESPN Analytics and is based on matchup history and conference statistics. Despite Boise State having the better résumé and statistical edge, Wyoming’s best players are actually averaging more points and rebounds.
Obi Agbim is the Pokes’ leading scorer, averaging 18.5 points per game, according to ESPN. He is also 25th in the entire nation for shooting percentage behind the three-point line. Agbim also leads the Cowboys in assists per game, though his 3.4 assists does not edge out Alvaro Cardenas’s 6.8.
Cardenas also leads the entire conference in rebounds and is currently seventh in the entire country for that statistic.
The best of the best over in Boise is MW Pre-Season Player of the Year Tyson Degenhart, who is averaging 17.9 points per game. According to the Mountain West, Degenhart is currently on the 2024–25 Jersey Mike’s Naismith Men’s Player of the Year Watch List, the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Top 20 Preseason Watch List and the Lute Olson Early Season Watch List.
UW’s Jordan Nesbitt is a dynamic guard capable of putting up points in the paint and getting the ball back before it goes in the other net. He is Wyoming’s rebound leader, putting up 7.8 per game. For Boise State, Omar Stanley’s 6.2 leads the pack.

However, regardless of the ability of individual UW players, Boise State is the clear favorite in this match. The Broncos also lead this long-running series between conference rivals 26–14 across the schools’ histories.
Boise State is currently boasting a 12–5 record overall and a 4–2 record in the conference. In their last match, they were just barely knocked out by AP’s No. 25 Utah State last Saturday. The Cowboys are coming off of their own loss to a tough conference opponent, as they were bested 53–61 last Tuesday by New Mexico.
Wyoming is currently allowing 69.6 points for opponents a night, which falls far under what Boise State is typically scoring — a healthy 77.7 points per game. Whether Wyoming can employ hard-earned wisdom from these two teams’ last meeting remains to be seen.
