LARAMIE, Wyo. — Allyson Fertig has made history again. Following the University of Wyoming Cowgirls Basketball team’s road trip to Boise State, Fertig has officially broken the school’s record for most Cowgirl rebounds with 1,107.

That record comes just a month after she broke past 1,000 career rebounds in a home game win against the University of Nevada on Jan. 15, meaning she has put up over 100 rebounds in just a month.

She surpasses Michelle Hoppes, who has held onto that school record since the 1986–87 season, meaning it took approximately 38 years for another player like Hoppes to come to the University of Wyoming.

Hoppes was inducted into the Wyoming Athletics Hall of Fame in 1996 for her incredible contributions to the game in Laramie, meaning Fertig likely will too at some point. She remains extremely prolific in many other stats for the University of Wyoming, which can be viewed here.

Fertig crossed that record threshold with a 12-rebound game against the Boise State University Broncos last night, which resulted in a 78–73 loss for the Cowgirls. Nonetheless, it’s a game Fertig will surely look back on fondly.

Fertig herself also ranks very highly in other statistical categories for the school. She is currently fifth in all-time points with 1,742, but needs just 40 more to bump herself up to third place — right behind Hoppes, who has 1,838 points.

Fertig is technically a senior, but if she can score 96 more points in the next four games and MW Championship series, that’s another one of Hoppes’s records she can break. She has already put up 504 points this season and is currently averaging 19.4 points per game, meaning that record is theoretically within reach.

Fertig and the Cowgirls will revisit the University of Nevada in Reno this Saturday for a 2 p.m. game. More information on that game and the rest of the Cowgirls’ schedule can be found on the Mountain West Conference’s website.
