LARAMIE, Wyo. — The University of Wyoming Cowboys’ star graduate-student running back Harrison Waylee, who has been with the program since 2023, announced his intention to transfer out of Wyoming on March 13.
He made the announcement over Instagram, where he wrote that, after long consideration, he and his family decided to transfer him out to another school.
“This is a decision I do not take lightly, and wish to thank the Wyoming Coaching Staff and my teammates for two great years in Laramie,” Waylee said in the post. ” I plan to chase my dreams wherever they take me; I ask that you please respect my decision.”
As a key piece of the Cowboys’ offense, Waylee has been central to quite a few important Wyoming wins, especially in 2023. In that season, he started nine games and rushed for 947 yards — top 50 in the country. He also ran for five touchdowns, with the most notable being a 75-yard rushing TD against Texas.
Injury plagued his second year with the Pokes in 2024. He had sustained a knee injury during camp before the season had begun and underwent surgery for it in August. He made a triumphant return against the University of New Mexico in late September, where he ran for 170 yards. By then, Wyoming’s season was already plagued with issues and they ended the season 3–9.
Now he is seeking to join up with another program. More information regarding his future team is so far unclear.
