CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The Cheyenne Gymnastics Team recently competed at the Pikes Peak Cup and came home with some big wins.
That’s according to a social media post from the Cheyenne Rec Center, which applauded the gymnasts for their achievements.
“This past weekend, our amazing athletes traveled to the stunning Broadmoor Resort in Colorado Springs to compete in the prestigious Pikes Peak Cup!” the post states. “Competing against 39 other teams from across the country, Cheyenne Gymnastics brought home some incredible achievements!”

According to the post, those achievements include:
- Xcel Bronze – third-place team
- Xcel Gold – third-place team
- Xcel Silver – first-place team
“Huge congratulations to all of our gymnasts for their hard work, dedication, and amazing performances!” the post states. “We’re so proud of everything our teams accomplished!”
“This is the largest competition that we’ll go to during our competitive season,” said Gymnastics Specialist Shannon Mitchell. “Our competitive season runs from the beginning of January through the beginning of May. Around 2,000 girls from all over the country attend this competition, and for a team from Cheyenne, Wyoming, to place as well as we did is a huge accomplishment. It’s a testament to my coaching staff and the dedication that the girls have for the sport.”
That dedication will take the Cheyenne Gymnastics Team to Colorado once more to compete at the University of Denver from Feb. 7 through Feb. 9. It’s expected that they will do just as well, in a year where the team has more than proved its merit.
“Our team has seen a lot of adversity the last couple of years,” Mitchell stated. “With moving facilities and kind of being displaced and such — to do as well as we have over the last few years, it’s an amazing accomplishment. And it says a lot about how hard these girls work. They push through these adversities, they show up, they show off, and they do well.”
