CASPER, Wyo — 82 mph gusts and multiple crashes are causing traffic closures Sunday, Dec. 20 as high wind warnings remain in effect through Sunday across much of Wyoming.
Advisories remain in effect for most of Sunday and through Monday morning in many areas.
In central and western Wyoming, Interstate 25 between the Colorado state line and Casper is closed to light, high-profile vehicles, Sunday morning, the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) said.
In the southeast travel district, WYDOT also advises:
- (9:39 am): US 30/287 is closed to all traffic between Bosler & Walcott Jct. due to a crash. The estimated reopening time is unknown
- (10:43 am)I80 Exit 279, Cooper Cove Rd – Laramie is closed westbound due to crash. As of Dec 20 at 07:10, the est open time is unknown. Exit 235, Walcott Jct – Exit 279, Cooper Cove Rd: Closed WB due to crash.
- (10:57 am) WY34: Crash, Travel lane blocked between Bosler Jct and I-25 at milepost 35, Expect delays.
“Lots of crashes yesterday & overnight,” WYDOT District 1 tweeted Sunday morning, adding, “Don’t become part of the stats; pull aside and save your ride.”
“Use caution if you must drive,” NWS advised generally. “Please keep both hands on your steering wheel in case of a sudden, strong wind gust.”
NWS also advises that people should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches during the windstorms. They should also remain in the lower levels of homes and avoid windows.
In the central and western region Sunday, 70 mph gusts have been recorded near Clark.
