CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The temperature in Cheyenne dropped 22 degrees in 10 minutes this afternoon as an expected cold front arrived.
The National Weather Service in Cheyenne reported the drop in a 5:15 p.m. tweet, saying the temperature fell from 78.8 degrees at 4:55 p.m. to 57.2 degrees at 5:05 p.m.
The cold front had been expected to usher in a weekend winter storm, during which up to 8 inches of snow was forecast for some parts of southern Wyoming, according to the NWS.
The weather service had issued a Winter Storm Watch for Laramie County, but that was canceled around 3:10 p.m.
“We have decided to cancel the Winter Storm Watch for central & eastern Laramie County as it is looking more and more possible that Cheyenne may see very little if any snow accumulation,” the weather service forecast discussion states.
A Hard Freeze Watch will be in effect from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday.
