I-80 facing closures with Wyoming to see more strong winds into Wednesday afternoon

CASPER, Wyo. — Strong winds are expected to continue in areas of Wyoming, and some highways are under wind closures.

Interstate 80 is closed to light, high-profile vehicles between Cheyenne and Elk Mountain as of 9:10 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Wyoming Department of Transportation. US Highway 287 is closed to light, high-profile vehicles between Laramie and Walcott Junction. US Highway 30 is closed to light, high-profile vehicles from Cheyenne to Walcott Junction.

Gusts up to 65 mph are possible until around 3 p.m. Wednesday on Interstate 80 between Laramie and Rawlins and in the north Snowy Range foothills, according to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne.

Gusts up to 55 mph are possible in the early afternoon on I-25 near Bordeaux and along US Highway 287 near Muddy Gap.


Strong winds are also expected from east of Rock Springs to Casper and on the leeward of the Absaroka Mountains, according to the NWS in Riverton. Casper could see wind gusts up to 44 mph.
