Storm to dump up to 2 feet of snow on Wyoming mountains, 10–16 inches in Yellowstone

CASPER, Wyo. — While much of the Interstate 80 corridor in Wyoming as well as areas east of the Continental Divide have seen some snow on Thursday, areas of the northwest have been dry.

However, that is likely to change with a winter storm expected to dump as much as 2 feet of snow on the Teton and Gros Ventre Mountains between 6 p.m. Friday and 9 p.m. Saturday, according to the forecast from the National Weather Service in Riverton. Accumulation of 10–16 inches is possible in Yellowstone National Park while 10–14 inches is expected in in Salt River and Wyoming Ranges and 6-12 inches is expected in the Absarokas.

Valley areas like Jackson and Star Valley can expect 4–8 inches between Friday night and Saturday night, according to the NWS in Riverton.

Thursday snow accumulations could total 3–5 inches in Natrona County, with 4–8 inches possible on Casper Mountain. Areas like Rock Springs and Green River could see 3–5 inches, according to the NWS in Riverton.
