CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Cheyenne’s snow chances will pick up this evening, albeit slightly, to top off a cold and windy Christmas day.
The National Weather Service in Cheyenne has issued a high wind wwarning for Cheyenne and Laramie County, in effect from 5 p.m. today through 5 a.m. Dec. 27. Northwest winds are expected to reach speeds of 30–40 mph with gusts of up to 60 mph possible. Impacts to travel are expected as strong crosswinds will be hazardous to lightweight or high-profile vehicles.
Cheyenne’s 9 a.m. temperature was 15 degrees, and that will rise to a high of 26 today. Skies will be partly sunny. With a north-northwest wind of 15–20 mph and gusts as high as 30 mph, windchills will be between minus 5 and 5 degrees.
Tonight will see a 30% chance for snow reenter the forecast. Skies will be mostly cloudy. The temperature will be steady at around 20. Windchills will be between 0 and 5 degrees as winds come from the north-northwest at 25–30 mph and increase to 30–35 mph after midnight. Gusts of up to 50 mph are possible.
A 30% chance for snow will continue through Tuesday as the high returns to 35. Skies will otherwise be partly sunny. Blustery conditions will continue with gusts of up to 55 mph possible. Snow chances will fall to 20% Tuesday night under partly cloudy skies. The low will fall to around 23. Winds will begin to decrease from 25–30 mph to 20–25 mph after midnight.
Wednesday will see the high return to around 39. Breezy conditions are expected to continue with a northwest wind of 15–20 mph. Skies should be mostly sunny and remain mostly clear through Wednesday night. The forecast low is 18 degrees.
The remainder of the week through the weekend will see temperatures in the 40s. Thursday has a forecast high of 45, Friday 46, Saturday 46 and Sunday 42.
