CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The new year has come with mostly clear skies and seasonally warm temperatures for southeastern Wyoming.
There’s a mostly quiet week ahead at least through midweek. The latter part of the week may see cooler temperatures and some unsettled weather that could bring snow flurries back to Cheyenne, according to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne.
“High confidence in a cooling trend this week with a good chance for temperatures well below average for this weekend as a very cold modified arctic airmass pushes south into the area,” meteorologists wrote in the forecast discussion. “Before that, in-house wind guidance show the potential for a minor gap wind event Friday night and early Saturday ahead of the initial shortwave trough and jet energy pushing across the northern Rockies. Increased winds mainly across the wind-prone areas and kept gusts just below high wind criteria for now.
“The best chance for precipitation appears to be Sunday and Sunday night with the arrival of an arctic airmass plunging south.”
Today, however, will see a high near 49 under mostly sunny skies. There’ll be a west-northwest wind of around 10 mph throughout the day, dropping to about 5 mph overnight. The forecast low is 19 degrees. Skies should be partly cloudy.
Tuesday will see the high return to 42 degrees under sunny skies. Tuesday night’s low will be near 18. Skies will remain mostly clear.
Wednesday won’t be much different with a forecast high of 40 degrees under sunny skies. Overnight, the low will fall to around 17. Skies will be partly cloudy.
Cooler temps arrive Thursday with a high of 36, followed by 37 on Friday. Thursday night has a slight chance for snow, although no impacts are currently expected. Overnight lows each night should be near 18, according to the forecast.
