CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Cheyenne is expected to experience another mild day today, but a change is on the horizon with snow forecast for Thursday from Rawlins to Sidney, Nebraska. The National Weather Service in Cheyenne predicts light snow accumulations, just under an inch, mainly along and south of the I-80 corridor.
Today may be the last mild day for a while as a gradual cooling trend through Monday is expected, NWS Lead Forecaster Timothy Trudel notes.
The forecast includes occasional light snow chances, with the first system bringing fog and possible flurries or freezing drizzle tonight into early Friday. A subsequent system on Sunday and into Monday might bring light snow to the High Plains, though uncertainties remain.
In the short term, a Canadian cold front is moving southward across the high plains, bringing cooler air and potential fog into southeast Wyoming and western Nebraska. “Afternoon temperatures look on track and … in the 30s to low 40s across the area,” Trudel states, indicating the onset of colder conditions starting Thursday.
Looking further ahead, NWS Meteorologist Mike Natoli outlines a shift in the weather pattern.
“A pattern change is now expected starting late this week through early next week as Canadian blocking breaks down,” Natoli states.
Despite this, mountain snow accumulations are anticipated to be modest.
