Chilly start to coming week ahead for Cheyenne

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — After an unseasonably warm start to the season, winter seems to finally be settling in for the Cheyenne area, with the coming week starting with cold temperatures and chances for snow.

Today, the National Weather Service in Cheyenne reports a 20% chance of snow showers, likely beginning after 2 p.m. The day will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 32 degrees.

At night, the chance of snow will grow to 40%, mainly after 8 p.m. Temperatures will fall to a low of around 13 degrees; however, conditions will likely feel even colder due to strong winds that could gust as strong as 30 mph.

The NWS in Cheyenne reports that the chance of snow will grow to 30% on Monday, with snow showers possible in the mid-morning before 11 a.m. Temperatures are expected to reach a high of just 22 degrees during the day. However, winds as strong as 35 mph will create windchill values that range between 5 and minus 5 degrees.

Monday night will see temperatures drop to a low of around 10 degrees, though wind speeds are only expected to get even stronger once the sun goes down. The NWS in Cheyenne forecasts a windchill value between minus 10 and zero as northwest winds reach speeds as high as 45 mph.

Tuesday is likely to be mostly sunny but not much warmer, with a high temperature that just barely climbs above freezing. Tuesday is also expected to be another windy day, with winds moving in from the west at 40–50 mph and with gusts reaching 60 mph.
