CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The National Weather Service in Cheyenne has extended the high wind warning for Cheyenne and surrounding areas until 6 p.m. today, anticipating strong winds and hazardous travel conditions.
Initially set to expire at 2 p.m., the warning now covers the rest of the day. Residents in eastern Platte and central Laramie counties, including Wheatland and Cheyenne, should brace for west winds of 30–40 mph, with gusts reaching 60 mph.
The strong crosswinds pose significant risks, particularly to lightweight or high-profile vehicles, such as campers and tractor-trailers. Motorists are advised to exercise caution.
Apart from winds, blowing snow and accumulating snowfall threaten southeast Wyoming. These conditions, extending into the Nebraska Panhandle, could worsen travel hazards. Dangerous windchills are also expected tonight and into the weekend.
The challenging weather conditions are likely to persist. Strong winds will continue through Wednesday afternoon, and snow chances will increase across southeast Wyoming and western Nebraska from Wednesday evening into Thursday morning.
