CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Southeast Wyoming, and much of the rest of the state, is now under an air quality alert until 1 p.m. Wednesday.
On Tuesday, the National Weather Service in Cheyenne stated that Wyoming is currently experiencing poor air quality conditions due to wildfire smoke originating from Canada and the Pacific Northwest.
According to weather website AccuWeather, Cheyenne has an Air Quality Index of 91 as of Tuesday evening. An index that rises above 101 is unhealthy for children and active adults, while a score anywhere between 51 and 100 can be harmful to sensitive groups, according to the American Lung Association.
The NWS in Cheyenne cautions sensitive groups to minimize outdoor activities if possible.
