1 dead following vehicle crash on Interstate 80

Driver inattention and cell phone use are listed by the WHP as possible contributing factors to the crash.

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — One man is dead after rear-ending a Freightliner truck on Interstate 80 on Wednesday, May 17.

The incident occurred at midnight at milepost 273.6 in Carbon County, according to an incident report by the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

Per the report, a Freightliner combination unit was traveling east on I-80 in the right lane at approximately 40–45 mph with its hazard lights activated, while a commercial-style bus was in the right lane behind it. Near milepost 273.6, as the Freightliner was clearing a hillcrest, the bus collided with the rear of the trailer. Upon the initial collision, the driver of the bus was ejected through the front windshield.

The report identifies John Brown, 75, of Louisiana as the driver of the bus. He was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision.
