CHEYENNE, Wyo. — One person is dead following an early morning Nov. 6 vehicle crash in Sweetwater County.
The incident took place at 5:35 a.m. on Interstate 80 / US 30 at milepost 86.1 near Green River, according to a Wyoming Highway Patrol incident report.
A Ford Focus was eastbound on I-80 when its left-side tires slowly drifted off of the roadway and into the median. The vehicle continued eastbound while straddling the road surface for approximately 200 feet before the driver overcorrected his steering to the right, the report states. The vehicle rotated clockwise and entered the road ditch in a broadside driver’s-side–leading skid as the vehicle traversed the sloped road ditch, tripped and rolled at least one time.
Christopher Benson, 50, is identified in the report as the driver and deceased.
Driver inattention is listed as a possible contributing factor to the crash. Road conditions are listed as being dry and clear at the time.
