CHEYENNE, Wyo. – A man was arrested in relation to a call Cheyenne Police received of a domestic assault in early February.
William Onyski made his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on Thursday, February 27th to hear the recommended charge of felony Strangulation of a Household Member and a misdemeanor count of Domestic Battery read to him by Judge Lee.
Onyski also faces an additional misdemeanor count of Interference with an Emergency Call.
According to Wyoming Statutes, an individual convicted of Strangulation of a Household Member could face up to 10 years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.
Court documents say that police were dispatched to a residence to investigate a report of a domestic assault they had received in the evening hours of February 6, 2020.
Police report that when they arrived on scene they made contact with an individual who alleged that Onyski had assaulted them. They say that they observed that the victim had a visible laceration on their cheek.
The accuser told police that Onyski had come to their house in an intoxicated condition earlier in the evening. They allege that Onyski had pushed them up against a wall and held them there with his hands around their throat.
An affidavit filed in the case says that the victim told police that when Onyski let go of their throat they attempted to call 911. The accuser told investigators that Onyski grabbed the phone out of their hands and began to strangle them again.
The accuser also reported that Onyski also punched them three times in the face during the attack.
Police note physical injuries on the accuser, consistent with the accuser’s allegations.
All of those cited or arrested are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law. Charges are subject to change following official filings from the Laramie County District Attorney’s Office.
