CHEYENNE, Wyo. – A 31-year old man was arrested by the Wyoming Highway Patrol after they allegedly discovered him to be in possession of MDMA, otherwise known as “ecstasy” and marijuana, during a traffic stop.
Officials with the WHP say that one of their troopers pulled Abdul Hanif, of California, over for a speeding violation during the late morning hours of May 22nd, 2020 while he was driving on I-80 East.
Court papers say that the trooper reported they observed suspected marijuana inside of the vehicle when they made contact with Hanif.
According to an affidavit filed in the case, the trooper conducted a probable cause search of the rest of the vehicle where a package of “colorful pills” were located in a small compartment above the rearview mirror.
“Haniff described the pills as a party pill,” the Trooper said. “He also described them as a pill that helps you stay awake.”
According to investigators, the pills are suspected to be Ecstasy.
Hanif made his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on Tuesday, May 26th, 2020 to hear the felony charge of Possession of MDMA, and a misdemeanor charge of Possession of Marijuana read to him by Judge Thomas Lee.
All of those cited or arrested are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law. Charges are subject to change following official filings from the Laramie County District Attorney’s Office.
