CHEYENNE, Wyo. – A 28-year old man was arrested by the Cheyenne Police Department after they say that he allegedly strangled another person repeatedly after a verbal argument turned violent.

Court papers say that John Galvin made his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on Friday, May 22nd, 2020 to hear the recommended felony charge of Strangulation of a Household Member and the misdemeanor count of Domestic Battery read to him by Judge Denise Nau.

According to an affidavit filed in the case, an officer with the Cheyenne Police Department was dispatched to a residence during the afternoon hours of May 21st, 2020 in reference to a reported domestic disturbance.

The officer reports that they could hear an active disturbance coming from the residence when they arrived to the scene.

Police say that the alleged victim said that Galvin had attacked them during a verbal argument. The accuser went on to allege to the officer that Galvin had shoved them up against a wall repeatedly with two hands around their throat.

The accuser reported that Galvin then brought them to the ground while continuing to have his hands around their neck.

According to court papers, the alleged victim told police that Galvin knocked their head against the floor multiple times for a “couple of minutes.” The supporting court documents go on to say that the accuser said they could not breathe or scream because they were unable to breathe.

Investigators said that the alleged victim had injuries that were consistent with their account of the alleged attack.

All of those cited or arrested are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law. Charges are subject to change following official filings from the Laramie County District Attorney’s Office.
