CHEYENNE, Wyo. – A 32-year old man has been arrested and charged with Strangulation of a Household Member, a felony, as well as two other misdemeanor charges of Interference.
According to an affidavit filed in the case, an officer with the Cheyenne Police Department was dispatched to the 1100 block of E. Lincolnway on May 23rd, 2020, to a report of an individual screaming for help.
The officer says that when they arrived at the scene they made contact with Christian Jones, who they observed was attempting to walk away from the area.
“Jones was uncooperative and did not want to explain what had just taken place. I noticed that Jones had fresh blood on the back of his left arm and elbow,” the officer reported.
Court papers say that the officer then spoke to the accuser who told them that Jones held them by the neck with both hands after they had gotten into a verbal argument.
The alleged victim went on to tell law enforcement that they were unconcious for a moment during the attack.
According to court documents, the accuser told the officer that Jones had knocked the cell phone out of their hands and stomped on it when they attempted to call 911. The alleged victim then reported that they were able to scream to a nearby person to call emergency services.
Investigators say they arrested Jones when it was discovered that he had a probation revocation for a previous misdemeanor charge of Property Destruction.
The affidavit alleges that Jones physically resisted being placed into custody by kicking and spitting at officers. It is reported that Jones was placed into restraints before being taken to the Laramie County Detention Center.
Court papers say that Jones made his intitial court appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on May 26th, 2020.
During the proceedings, Judge Lee read the recommended felony charge of Strangulation of a Household Member, and the misdemeanor counts of Interference with a Peace Officer and Interference with an Emergency Call.
According to Wyoming state statutes, any individual convicted of felony Strangulation of a Household Member can face up to 10 years in prison and/or fine of up to 10k.
All of those cited or arrested are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law. Charges are subject to change following official filings from the Laramie County District Attorney’s Office.
