Cheyenne man faces Aggravated Assault charge

Emmanuel Bautista

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Officials with the Cheyenne Police Department say that they have arrested a 37-year old Cheyenne man after they allege that he walked into a bar and struck another person in the face with his fist.

Obtained court records say that Emanuel Bautista was read the felony charge of Aggravated Assault -Serious Bodily Injury and a misdemeanor count of Interference with a Peace Officer by Judge Lee during his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2020.

According to an arrest affidavit filed in the case, officers with the Cheyenne Police Department were dispatched to a bar on the 100 block of West 6th Avenue during the early morning hours of May 30th.

Police say that they made contact with the alleged victim who advised them that a male, later identified as Bautista, had walked into the bar, came up to them, and then struck their face with a closed hand.

The accuser reported to the officer that they heard Bautista state “You think this is funny?” right before assaulting them.

The officer reports that they later located Bautista walking down an alleyway, but he ran when he saw their patrol car.

“I yelled several commands to stop, however, Bautista continued to flee on foot,” the officer said. “I located Bautista in the front yard of a residence hiding behind a flower box.”

According to obtained court papers, Bautista attempted to give arresting officers false information about his identification. Later, while being booked in the Laramie Detention Center, it is reported that deputies were able to identify him from prior contacts.

It is also alleged that while transporting Bautista to the Detention Center he stated on his own accord that he had knocked out four people, while using a racial epitaph to describe who they were.

Authorities say that Bautista became increasingly more uncooperative while being taken to the Detention Center and attempted to kick officers and the windows of the transport vehicle.

Bond information was not available at this time.

All of those cited or arrested are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law. Charges are subject to change following official filings from the Laramie County District Attorney’s Office.
