CHEYENNE, Wyo. – A 32-year old Laramie County woman was arrested by law enforcement and now faces a felony Theft charge after it was alleged that she stole another person’s vehicle.
Obtained court records show that Kayla Moody recently made her initial appearance via video in Laramie County Circuit Court to hear the recommended count of felony Theft read to her by Judge Lee.
Moody was also charged with a misdemeanor count of Domestic Battery during the same appearance.
Officials with the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office say that on April 16th, 2020, a deputy was dispatched to a residence located on the 3400 block of Farthing Road to investigate a report of a physical disturbance.
According to an affidavit filed in the case, once at the residence, the deputy made contact with the accuser who alleged that Moody took their car without permission following an argument between the two of them that turned violent.
The accuser told authorities that during their altercation Moody pulled down the collar of their shirt and burned the back of their neck with a lit cigarette.
Court documents say that Moody then allegedly took the accuser’s vehicle, described as a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe and drove away. The Blue Book Value of the car is said to be $2150.
The alleged victim advised the deputy they followed Moody in another vehicle. It was reported to law enforcement that when Moody saw accuser following she “Took off abruptly, drove through a fence and a neighboring property.”‘
The affidavit says that the accuser found the vehicle parked behind another nearby residence.
Acccording to state statutes any individual convicted of Felony Theft can face up to 10 years in prison and or a fine of up to 10k.
All of those cited or arrested are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law. Charges are subject to change following official filings from the Laramie County District Attorney’s Office.
