Man faces Agg Assault charge, after reports of shots fired outside Natrona Cty. strip club

CASPER, Wyo. —  Details have been released in the case against a man who is alleged to have fired a gun outside of a Natrona County strip club.

According to an affidavit filed in Natrona County Circuit Court, Joshua Ivery Jordan, Age 23 of Bar Nunn, was arrested during the early morning hours of June 8, 2020. Jordan is charged with Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Firearm with Unlawful Intent, both felonies, as well as Reckless Endangering, a misdemeanor.

During an initial appearance in Circuit Court Tuesday, Jordan told Judge H. Steven Brown that he had observed a fight outside of the “Racks” strip club on Talc Road in Natrona County. During the hearing, Jordan said that he became involved in a physical altercation, during which a gun fired into the pavement.

Natrona County Sheriff’s Deputies say that a call was placed by an anonymous tipster to the Public Safety Communications Center, reporting that shots had been fired outside of the strip club.

Sheriff’s officials arrived on scene just before 1:30 am, and upon arrival observed two male subjects wrestling on the pavement. Persons in a crowd around the two indicated to deputies that one of the men, later identified as Jordan, was the shooter.

On initial contact, Jordan reportedly told deputies that his gun had been taken from him, but he had the magazine for the gun in his pocket. A subsequent search of Jordan’s person found a handgun magazine with 14 rounds inside.

According to the affidavit, the accuser in the case said that he had observed several people in the parking lot of the Racks strip club who were fighting. The accuser walked outside to assist with the fight, and observed the suspect walk from his truck and approach the group. It is alleged that without provocation Jordan drew a pistol and pointed it at the accuser’s chest. The accuser said that he did nothing to provoke Jordan and felt that Jordan had pointed the gun at him, because he was the closest one to Jordan.

The accuser said that Jordan was rushed and tackled to the ground by multiple persons, and then described hearing a gunshot, at which point the accuser returned to the inside of the bar.

Deputies report that during questioning, Jordan claimed he had been inside the bar when he observed people start to argue, and a fight beginning in the parking lot. Jordan said he was not with either group, nor did he know anyone involved.

Jordan claimed that he tried to get between the two to break them up, but was pushed aside. Jordan then reported walking to his truck and retrieving what is described in the affidavit as a 10mm Springfield XDS handgun, and placed the gun in his waistband.

Investigators say that Jordan claimed then to return to the group and yelled for everyone to stop fighting, or he would call the police. The suspect claimed that the accuser in the case walked towards him before Jordan drew the pistol and pointed it at the accuser. At that time Jordan claims that the accuser backed away and that Jordan was hit on the head by an unknown individual.

Deputies say the suspect claimed to try to break up the fight, because people shouldn’t be fighting, and had armed himself with the pistol for protection.

Jordan told deputies that he fell to the ground and people began to pummel him. He then claimed to remove the magazine from the gun and fire one warning shot into the ground. The crowd reportedly dispersed after the gunshot, but the gun was removed from Jordan’s possession by another individual.

The affidavit says that the NCSO located a possible bullet hole in the pavement, and a scrape on the pavement that deputies say “might indicate the bullet ricocheted off towards the front of Racks.”

“This case involves three things that don’t go over well- Guns, booze, and Racks,” said Assistant Natrona County District Attorney Jared Holbrook to Judge Brown, during Jordan’s initial appearance on June 9.

During the hearing, conducted via videoconference, Jordan received a bond amount of $5,000 cash or corporate surety.

All of those cited or arrested are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law. Charges are subject to change following official filings from the Natrona County District Attorney’s Office.
