Officials in Sweetwater County have announced the arrest of a man that prompted advisories from law enforcement to people along Wyoming’s I-80 corridor.
Darren Carson Calvin, identified by law enforcement as “a known wanted person,” was reportedly arrested during the night of June 10, 2020.
Calvin was reportedly wanted for violent felony warrants out of the Unified Police Department of Greater Salt Lake, which include suspected Aggravated Robbery and Assault on a Prisoner.
“With the the vigilant help of a concerned citizen, sheriff’s deputies have located and, with assistance from officers of the Green River Police Department, apprehended Calvin near the Green River Cemetery, at approximately 8 p.m., without further incident,” a brief statement from the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday night. “A stolen firearm was also recovered from Calvin’s vehicle.”
Further details were not made immediately available.
Sweetwater County Sheriff’s officials say that Calvin was observed near Foothill Boulevard, in Sweetwater County, at about 3:00 pm, June 10.
“After a brief altercation with law enforcement, the suspect fled in a maroon Ford truck westbound on Foothill on the service road,” SCSO said.
Law enforcement officers reportedly pursued the Calvin, who made his way to the Old Lincoln Highway north of Interstate 80 and headed westbound on a dirt road.
The suspect vehicle reportedly became disabled, when deputies say Calvin abandoned it and presumably fled on foot, roughly north of what would be milepost 95 on Interstate 80.
Officers were unable to locate Calvin at the time.
The following manhunt prompted Sweetwater County Law Enforcement to ask for information from the public, leading to the apprehension of Calvin. Calvin’s booking photo and description were shared on social media by the SCSO.
The investigation is ongoing.
All of those cited or arrested are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law. Charges are subject to change following official filings from the respective prosecuting offices.
