CHEYENNE, Wyo. – A 27-year old woman was arrested by the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office on the recommended charge of Aggravated Assault – Threaten With a Weapon, according to obtained court paperwork.

Officials with the Laramie County Circuit Court (LCSO) say that one of their deputies responded to a residence inside of the county during the morning hours of November 20th, 2020 to investigate a report of a domestic disturbance involving vandalism.

The deputy reports in the affidavit of probable cause that they made contact with the accuser who alleged that Carrillo attempted to strike them with a ball-peen hammer during a verbal disagreement.

The accuser and another witness told law enforcement that Carrillo alleged attack came after she used the hammer to hit the hood and door of one of their vehicles.

According to court papers, the accuser told authorities that Carrillo started running at them with the hammer in her right hand. The alleged victim went on to say that as Carrillo got closer to them, she raised the ball-peen hammer to shoulder level.

“When Ashley was 1-2 feet from the accuser, she attempted to strike him with the hammer,” the affidavit states.

Both the accuser and the witness told authorities that they retreated into the residence after Carrillo reportedly swung the hammer. Once inside they allege that Carrillo hit the front door with the hammer.

When speaking with LCSO officials, Carrillo stated that she did have the hammer, but only as a means of self-defense. Authorities say they were later able to retrieve a 16 oz Pittsburgh ball-peen hammer that was alleged to have been used by Carrillo during the altercation.

“I observed two dents in the hood of the vehicle which were consistent with the shape and size of the hammer,” a deputy with the LCSO stated in the affidavit.

Court papers say that Ashley Carrillo made her initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on November 23rd, 2020 to hear the felony assault charge read to her by Judge Lee.

All of those cited or arrested are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law. Charges are subject to change following official filings from the Laramie County District Attorney’s Office. Information is provided by the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office.
