CHEYENNE, Wyo. – A 27-year old man was arrested by the Cheyenne Police Department (CPD) following an allegation that he attacked one of their officers during an investigation.
Paperwork obtained from the Laramie County Circuit Court reports that CPD officers responded to a residence on the 200 block of West 24th street to investigate a 911 hangup during the evening hours of December 19th, 2020.
Police say Christopher Turner told 911 dispatch that he believed someone was hurt. According to police, Turner called back later to say he his original report was a mistake and hung up again.
An affidavit filed in the case says that two officers arrived on scene and began speaking to Turner on the front door of the residence. It goes on to say that the officers observed that the residence was in disarray and began to investigate a possible domestic disturbance.
“When the officers were conducting their investigation, Turner stood in front of the doorway and refused to comply,” investigators stated in the sworn affidavit.
Court papers say that when one of the officers grabbed Turner’s arm to escort him outside, he resisted by flexing his arm and attempting to turn away.
Police officials report that during the altercation, Turner and the two officers fell off the front steps and onto the walkway. Authorities allege that is when Turner placed on of the officers in a headlock and struck them in the face.
The officer was able to get out of the headlock and helped physically gain control of Turner to place him into custody, according to court paperwork.
Turner made his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on Monday, December 21st, 2020. During his appearance he was read the recommended charge of Interference With a Peace Officer – Injury.
According to Wyoming statutes, if convicted, Turner could face up to 10 years in prison and/of a fine of up to $10,000.
