Cheyenne Police confirm arrest of man in connection to death of 2-year old

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – The Cheyenne Police Department confirmed in a media release that they have arrested a 27-year old man on unrelated charges in connection to the murder of 2-year old Athian Rivera, whose body was found in a nearby dumpster.

They have identified the suspect as Wyatt Lamb.

Earlier on February 19, authorities went on social media and asked the public’s help in locating Rivera who was reported as missing from the 500 block of Desmet Drive at around noon.

The social media post was later updated to announce that Athian had been found deceased.

The full statement from the CPD on the arrest of Lamb is as follows:

On February 19, 2021 at approximately 1:00 p.m. Cheyenne Police Officers responded to a report of a missing 2-year-old child around the 500 block of Desmet Drive.

Cheyenne Police Officers conducted an extensive search of the surrounding area and found the missing child deceased in a nearby dumpster.

Wyatt Lamb, 27, of Cheyenne was contacted at the residence and taken into police custody around 6:15 p.m. on an unrelated felony warrant for failure to appear and misdemeanor warrant for parole violation.

Cheyenne Police Detectives have now forwarded an affidavit of probable cause to the Laramie County District Attorney supporting additional charges of Aggravated Child Abuse and Murder.

In March of last year, Lamb was arrested by the Cheyenne Police Department on a felony charge of Strangulation of a Household Member. In that case, it is alleged that Lamb choked another person until they lost consciousness.
