Four felony charges alleging the strangulation of another person have been brought against a Cheyenne man. Allegations against the suspect say that he assaulted another person in front of a juvenile witness.

Charging documents released by the Laramie County Circuit Court say that the suspect faces four felony counts of Strangulation of a Household Member and a single misdemeanor count of Domestic Battery in the case.

Laramie County Sheriff’s officials say that deputies were summoned to the area of Harriman Road near I-80 for a reported assault. A victim in the case told investigators that they had been in a vehicle with the suspect and a juvenile and that they believed the suspect to be agitated.

It is claimed that the suspect, driver of the vehicle, was handling a knife during the drive. It was reported that no threat was made against the adult or juvenile passengers with the knife, but the adult passenger requested that the driver pull over and that they be let out.

The victim reported to deputies that after exiting the vehicle with the juvenile, they told the driver that they would arrange for another ride. It is then alleged that the suspect snatched the victim’s phone from them and forcibly removed the victim’s smart watch.

During a physical struggle between the two it is claimed that the suspect knocked the victim down , placed his hands on the their throat, and squeezed causing the victim’s airway to be blocked.

The affidavit reports that the victim said that when they were about to lose consciousness, the suspect would let up pressure on their throat, allowing the victim to breathe, but would then begin squeezing again.

The victim said that this happened four or five times before they ultimately lost consciousness for a moment.

As a result of the LCSO investigation into the case, the suspect was arrested and transported to the Laramie County Detention Center.

Identified as Isaac Davon Espinoza, born in 1995, the suspect made his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on September 7, 2021. During that hearing bond was set in the case at $10,000.

Espinoza has been scheduled for a preliminary hearing to see if his charges will be bound over to Laramie County District Court.
