Details have been released in the case against a woman arrested in Cheyenne who faces felony charges in a stalking case.
The suspect’s arrest was announced by Cheyenne Police Department on the afternoon of October 26 via a release sent to media and posted online.
“It was alleged that the suspect, a 20-year-old female, of Cheyenne, had been stalking the victim for several months,” the Cheyenne PD stated last week.
According to documents filed in Laramie County Circuit Court, the suspect in the case has been charged with, one felony count each of, Possession of a Weapon with Intent and Stalking.
The suspect also faces a charge of misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana in the case.
All of those cited or arrested are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law. Charges are subject to change following official filings from the Laramie County District Attorney’s Office.
At the time of the Cheyenne PD announcement, they had recommended the suspect for a charge of Aggravated Assault. That charge was not filed in Circuit Court with the others on October 27.
The Cheyenne PD says that officers were summoned to a private home in Cheyenne, and upon arrival officers reported hearing a shot fired from inside.
“As the officer approached the scene, the suspect was located with a firearm. It was later discovered that the weapon was fired at a closed door of the residence,” the Cheyenne PD revealed last week.
In an affidavit filed in Circuit Court, law enforcement says that investigation into the suspect began following a call; on Aug. 4, 2021; when a reported victim in the case said that they believed the suspects had left threatening notes for them to find.
It was also reported on Oct. 6, 2021 the suspect was found inside the home of the victim, and that the suspect had assaulted them.
Police say they received the October 26 call just after 1:30 pm, where the same victim was reporting being followed and harassed by the suspect. On arrival, responding officers said they found a running but unoccupied vehicle behind the victim’s home. The suspect was contacted walking to the vehicle while carrying a firearm that suspects described as a “double-barreled shotgun.”
The suspect was taken into custody. Subsequent investigation showed that a shotgun round had been fired at the rear door of the residence, damaging the door and an interior wall.
The affidavit of probable cause says that the suspect told police that they had felt disrespected by the victim, had been involved in a “car chase” with the victim, and had driven past the victim’s home multiple times.
The suspect is identified in court documents as Laura N. Henning, born 2001, of Cheyenne. Police say that Henning admitted to taking the firearm from a family member and buying ammunition from a Cheyenne retailer.
“Henning said she loaded the shotgun in her vehicle with two rounds of 20-gauge ammunition,” Cheyenne Police write in the affidavit. “Henning said she tried the back doorknob. [She] said she did not enter the house after firing the shot.”
It is believed that Henning took an additional six shotgun shells while walking up to the home.
Investigators say that a receipt for the ammunition was found in the suspect’s vehicle and surveillance video was obtained showing the suspect make the purchase. It was also reported that a misdemeanor amount of marijuana was recoverd from the vehicle.
The suspect was ultimately arrested and transported to the Laramie County Jail.
During her Initial Appearance, Henning was granted a $5,000 cash bond. She is currently scheduled to make a Preliminary Hearing later this week, to see if the charges against her will be bound over to Laramie County District Court.
