Officials with the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office are warning visitors and residents of a possible telephone scam reportedly circulating in the area, where the caller claims to be a LCSO Lieutenant.

LCSO took to social media on Wednesday to post a statement and warning about the reported scam.

“People in Laramie County have been receiving phone calls from somebody claiming to be Lieutenant Johnson or another person affiliated with the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office,” LCSO officials say. “When the call has been answered, people are told they need to update their information so they can be served a jury summons.”

Officials explain that if the person refuses to give their information the caller threatens that a warrant will be issued for their arrest.

“The Laramie County Sheriff’s Office will never ask you for personal information or any form of payment over the phone. Be careful to not fall for one of these scams,” LCSO cautions.

The scams reportedly originate outside of the LCSO jurisdiction and officials say they are not investigated by any agency.

“If you have questions or would like to make us aware of a scam, you can call 633-4751. If you’ve lost money to a scam and need to file a report, please call 637-6524 to speak with a Deputy.” Laramie County Sheriff’s Office Statement; Nov. 3, 2021
