A man is facing a felony charge of property destruction after being accused of breaking the window of a Cheyenne business that was valued at over $1,000.
According to filings in Laramie County Circuit Court, the suspect faces a single charge of felony Property Destruction. The charge can carry a potential penalty of up to ten years incarceration, a fine of up to $10,000, or both.
An affidavit, filed by the Cheyenne Police Department, says the suspect is accused of coming onto the property of an automobile dealership on the 1800 block of Westland Road, on November 3, and using a handheld drill to break a double pain window on the property.
Police say that witnesses claimed that the individual had approached a person on the lot, asking them to call 911. It was then reported that while the individual was making the call, the suspect walked to the front of the building where the broken window was found.
Based on repairs recently made to a similar window at the business, managers estimated the window’s value to be approximately $1,500. Felony Property Damage is described in Wyoming statute as a person does “unlawfully and knowingly deface, injure or destroy property of another without the owner’s consent and the value of the property is greater than one thousand dollars.”
The suspect was reportedly still on the property when officers arrived just after 5:00 pm and was observed to have several cuts on his hand. Police describe the injuries as consistent with ones received from broken glass.
A handheld electric drill was also recovered from in front of the window.
The suspect; identified in court documents as Clinton Williams, born in 1985; was taken into custody and transported to the Laramie County Detention Center. At a recent initial appearance, bond was set in the case at $5,000.
All of those cited or arrested are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law. Charges are subject to change following official filings from the Laramie County District Attorney’s Office.
