CHEYENNE, Wyo. — A suspect allegedly traded gunfire with a Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper at the end of a high-speed pursuit that began late on Monday night, according to the WHP.
The overall incident began at around 11:11 p.m. Monday when a trooper attempted to stop a silver Cadillac passenger vehicle for an alleged speeding violation near milepost 10 on Interstate 25 in Laramie County. The WHP state that the driver of the vehicle “failed to stop and led law enforcement on a pursuit northbound out of Cheyenne at speeds over 100 mph.”
The chase entered into Platte County where deputies with the Platte County Sheriff’s Office were successfully able to deploy a tire deflation device.
“After the successful tire deflation device deployment, the driver of the vehicle came to an abrupt stop, exited the vehicle and began to shoot at the trooper with the trooper returning fire,” the WHP said.
Neither the trooper nor the suspect sustained injuries during the exchange of gunfire, according to the WHP. The suspect was taken into custody. The WHP identified the suspect only as a resident of Colorado.“The suspect has been booked into the Platte County Jail and the investigation has been turned over to the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation,” the WHP said in Tuesday’s press release. “No further information will be released at this time.”
