State Troopers say that over 227 lbs. of suspected marijuana was found as the result of a traffic stop on I-80 in Laramie County. A suspect in the case is facing two felony charges.
Paperwork released by the Laramie County Circuit Court shows that the suspect has been charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance With Intent to Deliver and Possession of Marijuana in a Felony Amount. Both charges are considered felonies.
An affidavit filed by the Wyoming Highway Patrol alleges that the stop began when a trooper observed the suspect’s vehicle following too closely behind a commercial vehicle, whilst traveling eastbound I-80. A stop was reportedly initiated near milepost 363 and troopers contacted the suspect, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle.
During the stop, it is said that a WHP drug sniffing K-9 was deployed on the scene and indicated on the suspect vehicle. A subsequent search of the car is reported to have yielded approximately 227.6 lbs. of suspected marijuana, located in several pieces of baggage in the rear of the vehicle.
Desmond Wyntell Hightower, born in 1984, has been identified in court documents as the suspect in the case. Clerks in the office of Laramie County Circuit Court say that the suspect was given a $20,000 cash bond, and is awaiting a preliminary hearing later this month to see if the charges against him will be bound over to District Court.
All of those cited or arrested are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law. Charges are subject to change following official filings from the Laramie County District Attorney’s Office. Information is provided by the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office
