A Laramie County man was arrested and faces a felony charge after it was alleged that he tried to cash a fraudulent check at an area bank.

According to documents filed in Laramie County Circuit Court, the suspect faces a felony charge of Forgery. The charge carries a potential penalty of up to ten years in prison, a fine of $10,000 or both.

Laramie County Sheriff’s Deputies say, in a Circuit Court affidavit, that a bank employee  had reported to emergency dispatch that a man was trying to cash a check that they believed was fraudulent on Oct. 4, 2021.

The employee told deputies that they had known the suspect from a previous acquaintanceship and was able to identify him. The suspect had presented a check for $1,985.74 from a Laramie County chiropractor. The suspect reportedly claimed that the check was a refund for services he did not utilize.

When the bank employee called the chiropractor to verify the check, the chiropractor said that they did not issue such a check. The bank employee told the suspect that they would not cash the check and would be retaining it. The suspect reportedly did not argue and left the area.

The suspect; identified in court records as Tyler Thomas Flemming, age 30; was booked into the Laramie County Detention Center on November 22. During a subsequent hearing bond was set in the case at $5,000.

Flemming is currently scheduled for an early February preliminary hearing, to see if the charges will be bound over to District Court.

All of those cited or arrested are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law. Charges are subject to change following official filings from the Laramie County District Attorney’s Office
