LARAMIE, Wyo. — The Albany County Sheriff’s Office is warning the community about a phone scam that is currently active in the area.

According to a post on the department’s Facebook page, there have been reports that state callers have contacted community members, saying they are from the police or sheriff’s department. The imposters will often:

  • Refer to the community member by name
  • Tell the community member the call is being recorded
  • Tell the community member they missed a court appearance or jury duty
  • State that the community member needs to send money or a warrant will be issued for their arrest

The Albany County Sheriff’s Office would like to make residents aware that the department does not call individuals and demand money from community members under any circumstances.

If you are a resident of Albany County and fall victim to these scammers with financial loss, you are encouraged to file a report by calling the Albany County Sheriff’s Office’s Non-Emergency line at 307-721-2526.
