CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Cheyenne, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Cheyenne Police Department, the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office, and the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

DUI and Traffic Violation, Southern Cheyenne, Dec. 29, CPD

In the southern area of Cheyenne near US 85, a Cheyenne Police Department officer saw a dark-colored truck driving erratically. The vehicle, exiting a liquor store, rapidly pulled out, cutting off another vehicle and speeding at approximately 55 mph in a 40 mph zone, according to a CPD booking sheet.

During the pursuit, the officer noted the vehicle’s continued speeding and erratic lane changes without using turn signals. The vehicle eventually turned west on 5th Street, where a traffic stop was initiated at the intersection of 5th and Capitol.

Upon approaching the driver, the officer noticed watery eyes and a smell of alcohol. The driver, after being asked to sit in the passenger seat of the patrol vehicle, continued to smell of alcohol but denied drinking. Standard Field Sobriety Tests were conducted, revealing impairment, although the driver refused a portable breath test, according to the report.

The vehicle was subsequently released to the registered owner, who was the driver’s girlfriend.

Traffic Stop and Arrest for Outstanding Warrant, Dec. 29, CPD

Around 10:48 a.m., an officer of the Cheyenne Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a black Cadillac due to the absence of visible registration. During the stop, the driver was unable to provide a valid driver’s license, according to the booking sheet.

A check through the National Crime Information Center revealed that the driver had an outstanding warrant from Laramie County for failure to pay fines related to a previous charge of possessing less than 3 grams of methamphetamine.

Additionally, it was discovered that the driver was operating the vehicle with a suspended license. A search of the vehicle yielded less than 3 grams of methamphetamine and five fentanyl pills, according to the report.

The driver was arrested and taken to the Laramie County Jail without any further incidents.

Trespassing and False Identity, Campbell Avenue, Jan. 1, CPD

At around 1 p.m., an officer from the Cheyenne Police Department responded to a call regarding an unwanted or trespassing person near the 900 block of Campbell Avenue. The individual had previously been issued a criminal trespass warning for the same location on Dec. 31, 2023.

After a search, officers located the individual in a field on the east side of Logan Avenue. The person admitted to being at the location but claimed it was to meet someone. Despite denying being served a CTW the previous day, further investigation confirmed that he had indeed been served but refused to sign it, according to the report.

Upon request for identification, the individual provided a false name. Officers familiar with him identified the falsehood. He was then handcuffed, with the handcuffs checked for fit and secured.

The individual was transported to jail by an officer. However, upon arrival, he became uncooperative with the booking deputies and was placed in a holding cell. He was booked on Circuit Court charges for interference with a peace officer due to giving a false identity, and received an additional citation for trespassing.

DUI and Speeding Violation, Interstate 25 near Mile Post 4, Dec. 31, WHP

On Dec. 31, 2023, a Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper, while patrolling Interstate 25 near mile post 4 in Laramie County, saw a white passenger vehicle traveling north at a high speed. The vehicle was clocked at 117 mph in a 75 mph zone.

Upon making contact with the driver, the trooper smelled marijuana and noted the driver’s bloodshot, watery eyes, and relaxed, quiet speech. Despite her denial of having marijuana in the vehicle, the trooper proceeded to conduct standardized field sobriety tests.

The suspect admitted to having smoked marijuana about four hours prior. The sobriety tests revealed several clues of impairment, including lack of convergence and issues in the walk and turn, one-leg stand, finger-to-nose test and Modified Romberg Test.

The suspect was arrested for driving under the influence and transported to the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center for a blood draw. She was then taken to the Laramie County Detention Center for booking.

The suspect was booked without any injury or incident and faced charges including possession of 3 grams or less of a controlled substance, driving under the influence of a controlled substance and exceeding the speed limit.
