CHEYENNE, Wyo. — A routine traffic stop turned into a livestock investigation on U.S. Highway 85 when a cattle hauler was caught speeding and was subsequently seized for numerous violations, according to the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident unfolded as deputies, recently trained in commercial vehicle enforcement and livestock brand inspection, clocked the vehicle traveling 10 mph over the speed limit. The deputy’s inspection revealed discrepancies in the cattle’s branding, prompting further investigation.
The Wyoming Brand Inspector and Wyoming Highway Patrol were called to assist, uncovering the truck’s unsafe conditions. The driver faced citations for lacking a commercial driver’s license, insurance and vehicle registration.
The seizure of 39 cows is the first step in determining rightful ownership and pursuing potential criminal livestock charges, the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office said.
“Great teamwork for the safety of our roads and cows,” the department stated.
