CHEYENNE, Wyo. — One man is in custody following a fatal shooting that occurred early Saturday morning in Cheyenne.
At about 1:30 a.m. March 23, Cheyenne Police Department officers were dispatched to a reported shooting at a residence on the 100 block of King Court. Upon arrival, officers found a 25-year-old male who was the apparent victim of a gunshot wound. Officers began to administer first aid until medical personnel arrived.
The victim was taken to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.
In the following hours Saturday morning, Cheyenne detectives arrested Cheyenne resident Antonio Navarrete, 23, on one count of first-degree murder and one count of aggravated assault. He was booked into the Laramie County Jail without incident.
The preliminary investigation shows that an argument occurred between Navarrete and the victim in the parking lot of a local bar at approximately 12:30 a.m. During the argument, the victim allegedly smashed the windshield of Navarrete’s vehicle. Navarrete left the bar with a group of friends and returned home. The victim left separately.
Following the incident, the victim went to Navarrete’s residence to collect personal belongings. While there, another disturbance ensued, resulting in the victim being fatally shot. Other people were in proximity of the gunfire; however, no other injuries were reported.
The case remains under investigation by the Cheyenne Police Department.
