CHEYENNE, Wyo. — In a recent decision, Brayden Sosa was sentenced to 18–36 months suspended for two years of probation by Judge Steven K. Sharpe. This sentencing comes after a jury found Sosa guilty of felony child abuse in December.
On the evening of May 29, 2023, the Cheyenne Police Department responded to a call. Officer McClaskey, upon arriving at the scene, learned from a mother that she had discovered red marks on her daughter’s cheeks after picking her up from her father, Brayden Sosa. These marks bore the unmistakable outline of a handprint.
The mother, concerned for her daughter’s well-being, sought medical attention at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center and documented the injuries with photographs. The child told her mother that her father, Sosa, had hit her. Sosa told the mother he had smacked his daughter because she would not stop screaming, according to the affidavit of probable cause.
Officer McClaskey’s observations corroborated the mother’s findings. He noted red marks and light blue bruising around the child’s right eye and distinct marks on her left cheek that resembled fingers.
