Guilty plea entered in domestic strangulation case in Cheyenne; battery charge dropped

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — In a Laramie County District Court hearing on March 25, Dante Garcia of Cheyenne admitted to strangulation of a household member, setting the stage for his sentencing next month.

Under a plea agreement, prosecutors will drop a related charge of domestic battery and will recommend a prison sentence of three to eight years at the sentencing scheduled for April 29.

Officer Tretter of the Cheyenne Police Department, who responded to the incident on June 30, 2023, detailed the events in the affidavit of probable cause. The report outlined how Garcia confronted the victim, leading to a severe and life-threatening altercation.

The victim recounted the encounter, explaining how Garcia forcibly restrained her, making it difficult to breathe and making her she feel like she was going to die. The assault left visible marks on her neck according to the report.
