K-9 unit sniffs out narcotics during Cheyenne traffic stop

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Early Tuesday morning, a routine traffic stop escalated into a felony drug arrest on East 1st Street and Russell Avenue. Cheyenne Police apprehended 37-year-old Shaundrea Carlson after a police K-9 detected narcotics in her vehicle.

Officer Tait of the Cheyenne Police Department initiated the stop around 12:41 a.m. when he spotted Carlson’s green Ford driving without visible registration. During the investigation, Officer Johnston and K-9 Pavel joined the scene. K-9 Pavel alerted to the odor of a narcotic in the vehicle, prompting a search, according to booking sheets.

The subsequent search revealed two small baggies containing approximately four grams of suspected Methamphetamine. Carlson, a Cheyenne resident, was booked for felony possession of Methamphetamine and driving with expired or improper registration.
