Laramie County Crime Clips (6/7/24–6/11/24)

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Cheyenne, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Cheyenne Police Department, the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office and the Wyoming Highway Patrol. Names for misdemeanor citations have been removed.

Interference with Peace Officer Arrest, East 12th Street, June 10, CPD

At around 7:15 p.m., Cheyenne Police arrested a 45-year-old transient man for interference with a peace officer near the 2500 block of East 12th Street.

Officer Tait and other officers were dispatched to the location for a report of a wanted person. Upon arrival, they observed a male matching the description and attempted to make contact. The man ran away, ignoring commands to stop. He was caught and identified by officers.

The man was uncooperative and was placed in a WRAP restraint system before being taken to the Laramie County Detention Center. He was booked for interference with a peace officer.

Public Intoxication and Fighting, 222 W. Lincolnway, June 10, CPD

At around 11:25 p.m., Cheyenne Police arrested a 30-year-old man for public intoxication and fighting at 222 W. Lincolnway.

Officer Lewis responded to a disturbance at The Crown Bar. Upon arrival, Officer Lewis found the man exhibiting signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, poor balance, red eyes and the odor of alcohol. During the investigation, it was discovered that the man had pushed another patron after attempting to start a verbal altercation.

A check of his records revealed an outstanding warrant for failure to appear on original charges of DUI, no driver’s license, and resisting arrest, signed by a municipal judge on May 28.

The man was placed under arrest, handcuffed and taken to the Laramie County Detention Center for booking on charges of public intoxication, fighting and failure to appear.

Domestic Battery, East Lincolnway, June 7, CPD

At around 2 p.m., Cheyenne Police arrested a 31-year-old man for domestic battery on the 2300 block of East Lincolnway.

Officer Marshall responded to a larceny report at Walgreens, where two individuals were accused of shoplifting. Shortly after leaving the store, the two got into a physical altercation.

Witnesses and the victim reported that the man pushed, kicked, pulled the hair of, and punched his partner in the back of the head. The man denied any physical altercation when contacted by officers. However, witness statements corroborated the victim’s account of the events.

The man was placed under arrest, handcuffed and taken to the Laramie County Detention Center, where he was booked on charges of domestic battery.

DUI, Possession of Marijuana, Campstool Road, June 8, LCSO

At around 9 p.m., Laramie County Sheriff deputies arrested a 53-year-old man for DUI and possession of marijuana near the 11000 block of Campstool Road.

Deputy Gebauer observed a dark green Ford pickup traveling eastbound at speeds of 65 mph in a 45 mph zone and later 80 mph in a 55 mph zone. The driver was also weaving heavily.

Upon stopping the vehicle, Deputy Gebauer observed a female passenger lying down in the rear as well as marijuana and open containers of alcoholic beverages in the vehicle. The male driver, identified by his Oregon driver’s license, admitted to consuming alcohol and smoking marijuana earlier that day.

The driver failed field sobriety tests, with a preliminary breath test indicating a blood alcohol concentration of .17%. He was arrested without incident and a blood sample was drawn at around 9:44 p.m. It was also discovered that his driver’s license was suspended out of Oregon.

The man was cited for DUI, possession of marijuana, possession of an open container, speeding and driving with a suspended license. He was cooperative throughout the arrest and booking process.

Reckless Driving, Ridge Road and Laramie Street, June 9, CPD

At around 12:41 a.m., Cheyenne Police arrested a 22-year-old man for reckless driving near the intersection of Ridge Road and Laramie Street.

Officer Rodgers was conducting a traffic stop when a white Cadillac Sedan sped past at an estimated 70–80 mph, shaking the officer’s patrol truck. The Cadillac came within 3 feet of the officer’s door before continuing southbound at an increasing speed.

After completing the initial traffic stop, Officer Rodgers noticed the same Cadillac returning northbound on Ridge Road and pulling up directly to the officer in the center turn lane. The driver, identified by his Wyoming driver’s license, was found to have operated his vehicle in willful and wanton disregard for public safety.

The man was arrested for reckless driving, placed in handcuffs and taken to Laramie County Jail without incident. He was booked on the charge of reckless driving and was cooperative throughout the process.

Public Intoxication and Underage Alcohol Possession, Sun Valley Drive, June 8, CPD

At around 11:33 p.m., Cheyenne Police arrested a 19-year-old male for interfering/obstructing, public intoxication, open container and underage alcohol possession near the 900 block of Sun Valley Drive.

Officer Ahearn was dispatched to the location following multiple reports of a vehicle alarm repeatedly going off. Upon arrival, Officer Ahearn observed two black trucks in the area, one with its lights on. A male was seen standing beside the illuminated truck with what appeared to be an open beer bottle. He began walking toward the officer but quickly turned and jogged back to the truck before fleeing down the sidewalk, discarding the beer bottle onto the street.

Officer Ahearn pursued the individual, identifying himself as police and instructing him to stop. The individual continued to run, falling several times before finally dropping into the grass and putting his hands behind his back about two blocks later. The individual, who exhibited signs of intoxication including poor balance, slow speech and the smell of alcohol, admitted to drinking earlier that evening.

The individual was read his Miranda rights and claimed he ran because he thought someone was after him, stating he did not hear the officer until the end of the chase. He was placed into custody, taken to the Laramie County Detention Center and booked on charges of interfering/obstructing, public intoxication, open container and underage alcohol possession. The individual sustained minor injuries during the incident but was otherwise cooperative.
