Laramie County Crime Clips (6/11/24–6/14/24)

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Cheyenne, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Cheyenne Police Department, the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office and the Wyoming Highway Patrol. Names for misdemeanor citations have been removed.

DUI and Resisting Arrest, Morrie Avenue at Broken Wheel Road, June 11, CPD

At around 12:02 a.m., Cheyenne Police arrested a 23-year-old male for DUI, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, speeding and no proof of liability insurance near the intersection of Morrie Avenue and Broken Wheel Road.

Officer Wellman observed a black Nissan Xterra driving 45 mph in a 35 mph zone on the 1100 block of East 5th Street on June 10 at around 11:44 p.m. After initiating a traffic stop, Officer Cigich detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath. The driver, who could not provide proof of insurance, performed standardized field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment.

When officers attempted to place the driver under arrest for DUI, he resisted by tensing up, swinging his arms and attempting to lunge forward. Despite repeated commands to place his hands behind his back, he continued to resist and kick his legs. Officers used the WRAP restraint system to gain control.

During the search incident to arrest, officers found a smoking device with a cartridge labeled “THC” on the driver’s person. The Wyoming Implied Consent was read to him at 12:20 a.m., which he refused. A search warrant for a blood draw was granted by Judge Singleton.

The driver was cited for DUI, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, speeding, and no proof of liability insurance. He was taken to the Laramie County Detention Center for booking.

Disturbing the Peace, Holliday Park, June 12, CPD

At around 2:15 a.m., Cheyenne police arrested a 47-year-old man for disturbing the peace at Holliday Park near Morrie Avenue.

Officer Lewis was patrolling the area and observed the man sleeping in the pavilion in the southeast corner of the park. The man had previously been warned by Sergeant Bentley that the park was closed between midnight and 5 a.m. and was instructed to leave.

Upon contact, the man stated that Officer Lewis would have to arrest him. Consequently, he was placed under arrest and into handcuffs. Officer McClaskey then took him to the Laramie County Detention Center for booking on a charge of disturbing the peace.

Possession of a Controlled Substance, Interstate 25, June 12, WHP

At around 3:56 p.m., the Wyoming Highway Patrol arrested a 39-year-old woman on Interstate 25 near mile post 9 for possession of a controlled substance.

Trooper Caleb Pushcar observed a red passenger car with a cracked windshield traveling north. The vehicle failed to use a turn signal when exiting the interstate, prompting a traffic stop at exit 12. The male driver was found to have a suspended license and was arrested.

The female passenger initially refused to comply with the officer’s orders to exit the vehicle. When she eventually complied, a search revealed a plastic baggy with suspected methamphetamine. The woman was arrested, handcuffed and taken to the Laramie County Detention Center. She was booked on charges of possession of a controlled substance, including powder/crystal, pill or cap and LSD, each in amounts of 3 grams or less.

DUI, WY 212, June 13, WHP

Around 2:37 a.m., the Wyoming Highway Patrol arrested a 22-year-old man on Wyoming Highway 212 near mile post 3 for driving under the influence, failing to maintain a single lane and not signaling 100 feet before a turn.

Trooper Caleb M. Pushcar observed a northbound passenger truck failing to maintain its lane multiple times and not using its turn signal. A traffic stop was initiated near mile post 3. The driver exhibited slurred speech; bloodshot, watery eyes; and the odor of an alcoholic beverage.

The driver complied with the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, revealing sufficient clues of impairment. He was arrested, handcuffed and placed in the patrol vehicle. Two breath samples were taken at the Laramie County Detention Center, showing blood alcohol concentrations of .105% and .102%.

The driver was booked without injury or incident and cited for DUI with a BAC over .08%, failure to maintain a single lane, and not signaling 100 feet before a turn.

DUI, Powderhouse Ramp at Storey Boulevard, June 13, LCSO

Around 5:55 p.m., the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 71-year-old man at the intersection of Powderhouse Ramp and Storey Boulevard for driving under the influence.

The arresting officer, Deputy Funari, observed the suspect running a red light at Brimmer Road and Powderhouse Road. The suspect admitted to consuming several shots of alcohol and failed the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. A subsequent breath test indicated a blood alcohol concentration of .06%.

The suspect was placed in handcuffs and was then taken to the Laramie County Detention Center without incident.

Public Intoxication, Laura Dawn Avenue and Shoshoni Street, June 13, CPD

Around 10 p.m., the Cheyenne Police Department arrested a 26-year-old man at the intersection of Laura Dawn Avenue and Shoshoni Street for public intoxication and possession of marijuana.

The arresting officer, Officer Brengman, responded to a report of a man down and found the suspect sleeping in the roadway. The suspect exhibited signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, unusual behavior and poor balance. He admitted to smoking marijuana and was found in possession of less than a fourth of an ounce of the substance.

The suspect was placed in the back of the patrol vehicle and taken to the Laramie County Detention Center. He was charged with municipal citations for public intoxication and possession of marijuana.
