Laramie County Crime Clips (6/17/24–6/20/24)

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Cheyenne, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Cheyenne Police Department, the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office and the Wyoming Highway Patrol. Names for misdemeanor citations have been removed.

Public Intoxication, Dell Range Boulevard, June 18, CPD

At around 8:37 p.m., the Cheyenne Police Department arrested a 33-year-old man for public intoxication on Dell Range Boulevard.

Officer Howe responded to reports of an intoxicated individual walking on Dell Range Boulevard. Upon contact, the suspect admitted to consuming about a pint of alcohol but denied being intoxicated. However, the suspect exhibited very poor balance and was unable to follow directions or visual stimuli.

The suspect, identified as a transient in Cheyenne, was issued a citation for public intoxication.

Giving False Identity, Dell Range Boulevard, June 18, CPD

At around 5:20 p.m., the Cheyenne Police Department arrested a 30-year-old man for giving a false identity on the 2000 block of Dell Range Boulevard.

Officer Young was dispatched to a local business following a report of shoplifting. An asset protection employee had recognized the suspect from a previous shoplifting incident on June 16. The suspect initially provided a false name, claiming to be Aaron Brooks. Upon being informed of a warrant, the suspect admitted to providing a false name and eventually revealed his true identity.

The suspect, identified as a resident of Cheyenne, was taken into custody for giving a false identity. 

Assault, Laramie County Detention Center, June 18, LCSO

At around 3:51 a.m., the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 32-year-old man for simple assault at the Laramie County Detention Center

Deputy Cruz conducted the arrest after reviewing surveillance footage from the Laramie County Detention Center. The footage revealed that on June 17 at approximately 6:07 p.m., the suspect had assaulted another inmate with an open-hand strike to the face in the H-Pod day room.

The suspect, a resident of Wheatland, was cooperative during the arrest and was issued a citation for simple assault.

Possession of Methamphetamine, I-25 South, June 17, WHP

At around 3:51 a.m., the Wyoming Highway Patrol arrested a 43-year-old man for possession of methamphetamine and lane use violations at mile marker 11 on Interstate 25 South.

Trooper Nick Haller observed a gold Buick LeSabre failing to maintain its lane. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver was identified by his South Dakota driver’s license. During the stop, Trooper Haller noted the driver’s trembling hands and the presence of a butane torch in the passenger seat.

Trooper Domingo Moya arrived to assist, and the narcotics canine partner, CoCoa, alerted to the presence of drugs. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed several butane torches and a small purple container of suspected methamphetamine. The driver admitted the substance was methamphetamine.

The driver was arrested and taken to the Laramie County Detention Center, where he was booked without incident. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance and lane use violations.

Public Intoxication, West Lincolnway, June 17, CPD

At around 8:15 p.m., the Cheyenne Police Department arrested a 58-year-old man for public intoxication outside a hotel on West Lincolnway.

Officer Eddy responded to a report from hotel management about a trespasser outside the building. Upon arrival, Officer Eddy found the man lying on the sidewalk on the west side of the building. The individual smelled strongly of alcoholic beverages and admitted to consuming alcohol.

A preliminary breath test revealed a blood alcohol content of 0.238%. The man was arrested, charged with public intoxication and taken to jail without incident.

Interfering/Obstructing, East Lincolnway, June 17, CPD

At around 11 p.m., Cheyenne police arrested a 26-year-old male on the 2300 block of East Lincolnway for interfering/obstructing and shoplifting.

Officers responded to a call about a suspicious person at the store. The suspect was observed consuming beverages, using mouthwash, applying lotion and dumping out a container of laundry detergent. The total value of the stolen and destroyed items amounted to $37.74.

While officers were inside the store, the suspect attempted to flee. Officer Wellman deployed an electroshock weapon, which was ineffective. The suspect continued to evade officers until Officer Hariston-Peyton successfully deployed an electroshock weapon. The suspect was then placed in handcuffs and escorted to the patrol vehicle.

The suspect was taken to the Laramie County Detention Center and booked for interference. He was also issued a citation for shoplifting and a criminal trespass warning from the store.
