CHEYENNE, Wyo. — A 53-year-old Cheyenne man is facing multiple felony charges following his arrest for a probation violation on Aug. 29. Joseph Julian Carrera appeared in Laramie County Circuit Court on Sept. 3 and is currently being held on a $3,000 cash bond.
According to the Cheyenne Police Department, officers arrested Carrera around 1:10 p.m. that day. Officer Robert Wingeleth and Officer Vapenik responded to a report of two wanted individuals at the location. Upon arrival, officers confirmed that Carrera had a felony warrant for a district court probation violation, signed by Judge Cooley on Aug. 14.
After his arrest, Carrera was taken to the Laramie County Detention Center. During the booking process, a deputy discovered two plastic bags containing 5.61 grams of methamphetamine hidden inside a flashlight that Carrera had with him. A field test confirmed the substance was methamphetamine, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
As a result, Carrera now faces two additional felony charges: possession of methamphetamine and taking controlled substances into a penal institution. The possession charge carries a potential penalty of up to seven years in prison and a fine of up to $15,000. The second charge, for bringing methamphetamine into the detention center, could result in up to three years in prison and a $3,000 fine.
Carrera is scheduled to appear in circuit court again on Sept. 13 for a preliminary hearing.
